Creatures, Gods and Demons

After seeing the catalogue design work we do for other clients, new client Willford Japanese Art approached us to elevate their existing style to the next level by developing the existing logo and designing their current and future catalogues. The current catalogue is titled ‘A Journey of Discovery: Creatures, Gods and Demons’ and features a collection of Japanese Inro and Netsuke.

What are Inro?
An inro is a traditional Japanese case for holding small objects, suspended from the obi worn around the waist when wearing kimono. They are often highly decorated with various materials such as lacquer and various techniques such as maki-e, and are more decorative than other Japanese lacquerware.

What are Netsuke?
A netsuke is a miniature sculpture, originating in 17th century Japan. Initially a simply-carved button fastener on the cords of an inro box, netsuke later developed into ornately sculpted objects of craftsmanship.
